Saint Verhaegen or St-V takes place every year on 20 November and celebrates the foundation of the ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles which was founded on 20 November 1834 by Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen.

In 1969 the ULB was split into the French-speaking ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Dutch-speaking VUB – Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The ACE – Association des Cercles Etudiants was founded in 1886. It represents and coordinates thirty folklorist circles at the ULB, be they baptismal, facultary or regional. It is active in defending the interests of student circles, promoting ULB student folklore and acts as an intermediary with the academic authorities of the University.

The 2019 theme took up the subject of social inequalities, of which the issue of the invisibility of the homeless by the Brussels government and the precariousness in the student environment could be taken as examples. On the left sleeve of the student, we can see an “XI” referring to the SGC (hard to see on the medal, better visible on the original drawing). Their colors (green and red) are also present on both characters. The figure on the left was originally a man but ACE wanted a woman because they are under-represented on St. V medals in general.

The design for this medal was drawn by Sébastien Laurent
