The J.V.K.A. – “Jeugdverbond voor Katholieke Actie” (tr.: Youth Association for Catholic Action”) was founded in 1928 by the Belgian bishops as a coordinating organisation of various Flemish youth movements within the framework of the Catholic Action (KA).
In Wallonia there was already a leading organisation, the “Association catholique de la Jeunesse belge (ACJB)”. (tr.: Catholic association of Belgian youth). There were protests from the Flemish movement against the idea that their influence would spread over Flanders, and because of the diversity of Flemish youth movements, a specialized KA was founded on the basis of a status quo principle.
The AKVS – “Algemeen Katholiek Vlaamsch Studentenverbond” (tr.: General catholic Flemish student association) rejected this basic idea and refused to join them. The ecclesiastical government saw any catholic youth movement that did not want to join as a competitor to be eliminated, and shortly after its foundation the ecclesiastical mandate of the various movements was discussed. To which target group should the various organisations address themselves? From what age were they allowed to recruit young people? And so on.
It was only after the Second World War that emotions subsided and the JVKA focused on defending the right to free Catholic youth work. However, the organization weakened noticeably and was disbanded in 1971.
The book contains 176 student songs and appeared in 2 editions.

Le J.V.K.A. – “Jeugdverbond voor Katholieke Actie” (tr. : Association des jeunes pour l’action catholique) a été fondé en 1928 par les évêques belges en tant qu’organisation de coordination de divers mouvements de jeunesse flamands dans le cadre de l’Action catholique (KA).
En Wallonie, il existait déjà une organisation de premier plan, l’Association catholique de la Jeunesse belge (ACJB). Le mouvement flamand a protesté contre l’idée que son influence s’étendrait à la Flandre et, en raison de la diversité des mouvements de jeunesse flamands, une KA spécialisée a été fondée sur la base d’un principe de status.
L’AKVS – “Algemeen Katholiek Vlaamsch Studentenverbond” (tr. : Association générale des étudiants flamands catholiques) a rejeté cette idée de base et a refusé de les rejoindre. Le gouvernement ecclésiastique considérait comme un concurrent tout mouvement de jeunesse catholique qui ne voulait pas s’y joindre, et peu après sa fondation, le mandat ecclésiastique des différents mouvements a été discuté. À quel groupe cible les différentes organisations doivent-elles s’adresser ? À partir de quel âge étaient-elles autorisées à recruter des jeunes ? Et ainsi de suite.
Ce n’est qu’après la Seconde Guerre mondiale que l’émotion s’est calmée et que la JVKA s’est concentrée sur la défense du droit à une jeunesse catholique libre. Cependant, l’organisation s’est sensiblement affaiblie et a été dissoute en 1971.
Le livre contient 176 chansons d’étudiants et a été publié en deux éditions.

Het J.V.K.A. – “Jeugdverbond voor Katholieke Actie” werd in 1928 door de Belgische bisschoppen opgericht als coördinerende organisatie van verschillende Vlaamse jeugdbewegingen in het kader van de Katholieke Actie (KA).
In Wallonië was er al een toonaangevende organisatie, de “Association catholique de la Jeunesse belge (ACJB). (tr.: Katholieke vereniging van Belgische jongeren). Er waren protesten van de Vlaamse beweging tegen het idee dat hun invloed zich zou verspreiden over Vlaanderen, en omwille van de diversiteit van de Vlaamse jeugdbewegingen werd een gespecialiseerde KA opgericht op basis van een standen principe.
De AKVS – “Algemeen Katholiek Vlaamsch Studentenverbond” verwierp dit basisidee en weigerde zich bij hen aan te sluiten. De kerkelijke overheid zag elke katholieke jeugdbeweging die zich niet wilde aansluiten, als concurrent die uitgeschakeld moest worden en kort na de oprichting kwam het kerkelijk mandaat van de verschillende bewegingen ter discussie. Tot welke doelgroep moeten de verschillende organisaties zich richten? Vanaf welke leeftijd mochten zij jongeren werven? En zo verder.
Pas na de Tweede Wereldoorlog zijn de emoties afgenomen en richtte het JVKA zich op de verdediging van het recht op vrij katholiek jeugdwerk. De organisatie verzwakte echter merkbaar en werd in 1971 ontbonden.
