Karol Wojtyła was born in Wadowice, near Cracow on May 18, 1920. He began his philology studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow in 1938, but the university was closed in 1939 as a result of the occupation.
After the death of his father he considered dedicating his life to the church. In 1942 he applied to the Episcopal Palace in Cracow for his studies to become a priest.
Małgorzata Kot designed the medal with the effigy of Karol Wojtyla based on two photographs in which he wears a “Czapka”; the traditional Polish student cap.
The medal is given to authorities during official visits by representatives of Bractwo Czapki Studenckiej UJ (BCSUJ)
One of the medals was given to Pope Francis in 2019 and officially added to the collection of the Vatican Museum. Pope Francis gave the BCSUJ a papal blessing.

Karol Wojtyła est né à Wadowice, près de Cracovie, le 18 mai 1920. Il a commencé ses études de philologie à l’Université Jagellon de Cracovie en 1938, mais l’université a été fermée en 1939 en raison de l’occupation.
Après la mort de son père, il envisage de consacrer sa vie à l’église. En 1942, il a demandé au Palais épiscopal de Cracovie de suivre des études pour devenir prêtre.
Małgorzata Kot a conçu la médaille à l’effigie de Karol Wojtyla à partir de deux photographies où il porte une “Czapka”, la casquette traditionnelle des étudiants polonais.
La médaille est remise aux autorités lors des visites officielles des représentants de Bractwo Czapki Studenckiej UJ (BCSUJ)
L’une des médailles a été donnée au pape François en 2019 et a été officiellement ajoutée à la collection du musée du Vatican. Le pape François a donné à la BCSUJ une bénédiction papale.

Na de dood van zijn vader overwoog hij zijn leven aan de kerk te wijden. In 1942 solliciteerde hij bij het bisschoppelijk paleis in Krakau voor zijn studie om priester te worden.
Małgorzata Kot ontwierp de medaille met de beeltenis van Karol Wojtyla op basis van twee foto’s waarin hij een “Czapka” draagt; de traditionele Poolse studentenmuts.
De medaille wordt tijdens officiële bezoeken aan autoriteiten gegeven door vertegenwoordigers van Bractwo Czapki Studenckiej UJ (BCSUJ).
Een van de medailles werd in 2019 aan paus Franciscus gegeven en officieel aan de collectie van het Vaticaan Museum toegevoegd. Paus Franciscus gaf de BCSUJ een pauselijke zegen.
