Saint Verhaegen or St-V takes place every year on 20 November and celebrates the foundation of the ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles which was founded on 20 November 1834 by Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen.
In 1969 the ULB was split into the French-speaking ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Dutch-speaking VUB – Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
The ACE – Association des Cercles Etudiants was founded in 1886. It represents and coordinates thirty folklorist circles at the ULB, be they baptismal, facultary or regional. It is active in defending the interests of student circles, promoting ULB student folklore and acts as an intermediary with the academic authorities of the University.

The BSG – Brussels Studentengenootschap (also known as the Brussels studenten genootschap – geen taal geen vrijheid (BSGgtgv) is the overseeing student organization of the VUB. They defend the moral and material interests of the student associations of the VUB and represents them towards the academic government.
It was founded in May 1856 as the “Nederduitsch Taalminnend Genootschap Schild en Vriend” but disappeared a few years later. It had an eventful history under different names and disappeared and reappeared on different occasions. Their colors are orange-white-blue.

Saint Verhaegen 2020 was very special, because due to the ban on gatherings, it was held online with many livestreams of circles and guilds.
The organising committee decided to address the issue of the health crisis. As a result of the lockdown, many issues came to light such as police violence, reporting of sexual assault, underfunding of hospitals and public services in general. It is this liberation of speech and awareness that this year’s Saint-V wanted to highlight.
The original shape refers to that of a coronavirus, and more specifically that of Covid-19.
The medal was designed by Alan Jockmans.

La Saint Verhaegen ou St-V a lieu chaque année le 20 novembre et célèbre la fondation de l’ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles qui a été fondée le 20 novembre 1834 par Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen.
En 1969, l’ULB a été scindée en deux : l’ULB francophone – Université Libre de Bruxelles et la VUB néerlandophone – Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
L’ACE – Association des Cercles Etudiants a été fondé en 1886 représente et coordonne à l’ULB trente cercles folkloriques, qu’ils soient baptismaux, facultaires ou régionaux. Elle est active dans la défense des intérêts des cercles étudiants, la promotion du folklore étudiant de l’ULB et sert d’intermédiaire avec les autorités académiques de l’Université.

La BSG – Brussels Studentengenootschap (également connue sous le nom de Brussels studenten genootschap – geen taal geen vrijheid (BSGgtgv) est l’organisation étudiante de la VUB. Elle défend les intérêts moraux et matériels des associations étudiantes de la VUB et les représente auprès du gouvernement académique.
Elle a été fondée en mai 1856 sous le nom de “Nederduitsch Taalminnend Genootschap Schild en Vriend” mais a disparu quelques années plus tard. Elle a connu une histoire mouvementée sous différents noms et a disparu et réapparu à différentes occasions. Ses couleurs sont orange-blanc-bleu.

La Saint-Verhaegen de 2020 est très particulière, en effet, au vu de l’interdiction de se rassembler, elle s’est déroulée en ligne grâce à de nombreux lives de cercles et guildes.
Le comité organisateur a décidé de se pencher sur la question de la crise sanitaire. À la suite du confinement, de nombreux sujets ont été mis en lumière comme les violences policières, la dénonciation d’agressions sexuelles, le sous-financement du milieu hospitalier et des services publics en général. C’est cette libération de la parole et de prise de conscience que veut mettre en exergue la Saint-V de cette année.
La forme originale fait référence à celle d’un coronavirus et plus particulièrement celui du Covid-19.
La médaille a été dessinée par Alan Jockmans.

Sint Verhaegen of St-V vindt elk jaar plaats op 20 november en viert de oprichting van de ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles die op 20 november 1834 werd opgericht door Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen.
In 1969 werd de ULB officieel opgesplitst in de Franstalige ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles en de Nederlandstalige VUB – Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
De ACE – Association des Cercles Etudiants werd in 1886 opgericht. Ze vertegenwoordigt en coördineert dertig folkloristische kringen aan de ULB, of het nu gaat om doop-, facultaire of regionale kringen. Ze verdedigt de belangen van de studentenkringen, promoot de ULB-studentenfolklore en treedt op als tussenpersoon bij de academische autoriteiten van de universiteit.

Het BSG – Brussels Studentengenootschap – geen taal geen vrijheid (BSGgtgv) is de overkoepelende studentenorganisatie van de VUB. Zij verdedigen de morele en materiële belangen van de studentenverenigingen van de VUB en vertegenwoordigen deze tegenover de academische overheid.
Het werd in mei 1856 opgericht als het “Nederduitsch Taalminnend Genootschap Schild en Vriend” maar verdween enkele jaren later. Het had een bewogen geschiedenis onder verschillende namen en verdween en kwam bij verschillende gelegenheden weer tevoorschijn. Hun kleuren zijn oranje-wit-blauw.

Sint Verhaegen 2020 was heel bijzonder, doordat ze vanwege het samenscholingsverbod online werd gehouden dankzij de vele live streams van kringen en gilden.
Het organisatiecomité besloot de kwestie van de gezondheidscrisis aan te pakken. Als gevolg van de lockdown kwamen veel vraagstukken aan het licht, zoals politiegeweld, aangifte van seksueel geweld, onderfinanciering van ziekenhuizen en openbare diensten in het algemeen. Het is deze bevrijding van meningsuiting en bewustwording die Saint-V dit jaar onder de aandacht heeft willen brengen.
De oorspronkelijke vorm verwijst naar die van een coronavirus, en meer bepaald naar die van Covid-19.
