Saint Verhaegen or St-V takes place every year on 20 November and celebrates the founding of the ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles which was founded by Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen on 20 November 1834.
In 1970, ULB was officially split into the French-speaking ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Dutch-speaking VUB – Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Between 1900 and 1914, there was a Student Circle at the ULB called “Clysopompiers”. Little is known about this group except that they met at the “Cabaret du Diable-au-Corps”. The only historical traces are an invitation card to the banquet marking the closing of the “Diable-au-Corps”, and an entry in the university newspaper.
The name is derived from the joining of the words “Clysopompe” ( = a clyster) and “Pompier” ( = a fireman). In the 19th century, many student circles gave the title of fireman to the member responsible for the distribution of drinks. Since the 19th century, students have been using the clyster syringe for serving drinks to their classmates.
On 16 May 2014, 11 students gathered in the bar “La Bécasse” to sing and drink, and continued in the theatre Toone. It was on this evening, filled with various Salamanders, that the “Société du Grand Clysopompe” was formed.
Their colours are red-green-red, like the city of Brussels. Their shield is divided into three fields: the right one is black with their monogram in gold. The left field shows their colours. The bottom field is gold and shows a salamander in black.
They have their own codex with their own rules. Perhaps the most famous article in it is §11: “Fraternité, tu nais entre les verres. Amis, buvons à la Fraternité !” (Tr.: Fraternity, you are born amid glasses. Friends, let’s drink to Fraternity!”)

This medal depicts three animals representing the Clysopompe: the owl, the salamander carrying a clyster and the opossum drinking from a cup marked “§11” and carrying the Association’s banner.
The text refers to §XVIII of the association’s commentary: “Primo bibere, deinde philosophare”. For the SGC, it is important to remember this phrase in a world where everyone has an opinion on every subject (especially on social networks). The SGC’s colours are present with red in the background and green in the border.
There is an ‘Iguanodonia’ version with slightly different text and a purple border. The pennes are also purple and the pennant has turned purple-red-purple.

En 1970, l’ULB a été officiellement scindée en deux : ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles (francophone ) et VUB – Vrije Universiteit Brussel (néerlandophone).
Entre 1900 et 1914, il existait à l’ULB un cercle d’étudiants appelé “Clysopompiers”. On sait peu à propos de ce groupe, si ce n’est qu’il se réunissait au “Cabaret du Diable-au-Corps”. Les seules traces historiques sont une carte d’invitation au banquet de clôture du “Diable-au-Corps”, et une mention dans le journal de l’université.
Le nom est dérivé de la combinaison des mots “Clysopompe” ( = clystère) et “Pompier”. Au XIXe siècle, de nombreux cercles d’étudiants donnaient le titre de pompier au membre chargé de la distribution des boissons. Depuis le XIXe siècle, les étudiants utilisent la clystère pour servir des boissons à leurs camarades.
Le 16 mai 2014, 11 étudiants se sont réunis au bar “La Bécasse” pour chanter et boire, et ont continué au théâtre Toone. C’est lors de cette soirée, remplie de plusieurs Salamandres, que la “Société du Grand Clysopompe” a été créée.
Leurs couleurs sont rouge-vert-rouge, comme la ville de Bruxelles. Leur blason est divisé en trois champs : celui de droite est noir avec leur monogramme en or. Le champ de gauche montre leurs couleurs. Le champ inférieur est doré et montre une salamandre en noir.
Ils ont leur propre codex avec leurs propres règles. L’article le plus célèbre est peut-être le §11 : “Fraternité, tu nais entre les verres. Amis, buvons à la Fraternité !”

Cette médaille représente trois animaux représentant le Clysopompe : le hibou, la salamandre portant un clystère et l’opossum buvant dans une chope sur lequel est inscrit “§11” et portant le fanion de la société.
Le texte fait, quant à lui, référence au §XVIII du Comment de la Société : “Primo bibere, deinde philosophare”. Pour la SGC, il est important de rappeler cette phrase dans un monde où tout le monde à un avis sur tous les sujets (surtout sur les réseaux sociaux). Les couleurs de la SGC sont une nouvelle fois présentes avec le rouge en fond et le vert en bordure.
Il existe une version “Iguanodonia” portant un texte légèrement différent avec une bordure mauve. Les pennes sont également mauves et le fanion est devenu mauve-rouge-mauve.

In 1970 werd de ULB officieel opgesplitst in de Franstalige ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles en de Nederlandstalige VUB – Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Tussen 1900 en 1914 was er aan de ULB een Studentenkring genaamd “Clysopompiers”. Over deze groep is weinig bekend, behalve dat ze elkaar ontmoetten in het “Cabaret du Diable-au-Corps”. De enige historische sporen zijn een uitnodigingskaart voor het banket ter gelegenheid van de sluiting van het “Diable-au-Corps”, en een vermelding in de universiteitskrant.
De naam is afgeleid van het samenvoegen van de woorden “Clysopompe” ( = een clysteerspuit) en “Pompier” ( = een brandweerman). In de 19e eeuw gaven veel studentenkringen de titel van brandweerman aan het lid dat verantwoordelijk was voor de drankbedeling. Sinds de 19e eeuw gebruiken de studenten de clysteerspuit voor het schenken van drank voor hun klasgenoten.
Op 16 mei 2014 kwamen elf studenten bijeen in de bar “La Bécasse” om te zingen en te drinken, en gingen ze verder in het theater Toone. Het was op deze avond, gevuld met verschillende Salamanders, dat de “Société du Grand Clysopompe” werd opgericht.
Hun kleuren zijn rood-groen-rood, zoals de stad Brussel. Hun schild is verdeeld in drie velden: het rechter is zwart met hun monogram in goud. Het linker veld toont hun kleuren. Het onderste veld is van goud en toont een salamander in het zwart.
Ze hebben hun eigen codex met eigen regels. Het beroemdste artikel daarin is misschien wel §11: “Fraternité, tu nais entre les verres. Amis, buvons à la Fraternité !” (Tr.: Broederschap, je wordt geboren te midden van glazen. Vrienden, laten we drinken op de Broederschap!)

Op deze medaille staan drie dieren afgebeeld die de Clysopompe voorstellen: de uil, de salamander die een clyster draagt en de opossum die uit een beker drinkt, waarop “§11” staat en die de wimpel van de vereniging draagt.
De tekst verwijst naar §XVIII van het comment van de vereniging: “Primo bibere, deinde philosophare”. Voor de SGC is het belangrijk deze zin te onthouden in een wereld waarin iedereen over elk onderwerp een mening heeft (vooral op sociale netwerken). De kleuren van de SGC zijn weer aanwezig met rood op de achtergrond en groen in de rand.
Er is een ‘Iguanodonia’ versie met iets andere tekst en een paarse rand. De pennes zijn ook paars en de wimpel is paars-rood-paars geworden.
