Commin@
Commin@ is the student association for the departments of Communication, Social-Agogical Work and Hotel and Tourism at the Erasmushogeschool Brussel.
History
The circle was formed in 2001 but did not have its official debut until 2002, after making some compromises on their shield (see below), to become officially recognized.
Previously, there was already a circle, ERASCOM, which unfortunately ceased to exist before the turn of the century and (temporarily) made way for COMM@F. Whereas this circle concentrated mainly on the social aspects, its studentical activities were diluted so quickly, however, that in 2000 COMM@F already disappeared.
Under the impetus of neighboring circle Technica, with whom the department shared the campus at the time, Commin@, as « COMMunicatie IN het @lgemeen » (Tr.: Communication in General) was launched.
Its first members were Dieter Leemans v/o Lord Darth Viking ofte Viking (Praeses and founder), Sofie Van Lerberghe (Quaestor), Sabrina Selleslags (Scriptor/Ab Actis) and Stefania Di Meo v/o Motje (Vice-Praeses), who decided on the colors together, after which Dieter and Sabrina designed the coat of arms together.
As a liberal student organization, Commin@ is affiliated with the Brussels Senioren Konvent (BSK). They wear the smock, toga and the liberal cap or 'klak' with a long visor.
Originally, Commin@ represented only the students of the Communication Department, but in the meantime 2 mergers already took place; first with Social-Agogical Work (SAW), which itself did not have an active circle, and later also Hotel and Tourism, when their own circle HOT was dissolved.
Spurred on by some of the oldest members, Dieter Leemans v/o Lord Darth Viking ofte Viking took on Commin@ as well as Commin@-Ancienitas, which is an operation linked to the circle.
Firstly, it performs an archiving function for the circle, by providing space for the clubs statutes, addenda and special documents or files to be stored, among other things. Second, she provides an overview of the various praesidia and seniors in particular. Thirdly and finally, it helps former members to keep in touch with the circle. In an ever-evolving (digital) world, Commin@ tries to keep its profile in current affairs, whether this is in written form or via social or audiovisual media.
Commin@-Ancienitas acts as an anchor for the former members and the current generations, giving them the opportunity to stay in touch with the illustrious past of the association.
Colours
Their colors are Lila-Grey-Lilac, as a nod to their counterpart at the VUB, namely the Perskring. The symbolism behind the gray is that reality is never black and white and should be open for everyone to experience. It symbolizes objectivity.
The lilac is a reference to the fact that all forms of communication are the basis for all sciences. However, the color was brightened considerably because communication is not a strict science, and also to negate the erroneous link with Anderlecht (RSCA more specifically).
The coat of arms is a heraldic shield, consisting of 3 fields.
At the top left we find a crossed key and parchment scroll as symbols. The meaning behind it is that communication is the key to the world; the written word remains.
At the bottom the Flemish lion was originally depicted (black on yellow). However, this was discarded so as not to underline the 'Flemish' character as the main feature in these times. After consultation, it was decided to avoid political colouring. The Lion was replaced by a quill, the first known writing instrument; in black on grey.
On the right, with the colors diagonally on the background, is the monogram also known as Zirkel. The @ that is incorporated in this is on the one hand a reference to COMM@F, but also as a wink to the digitalization of communication, which the circle wants to help build in any case.
Couleur
As Couleur, novices and members wear a Member's band in the club colours. The Praeses wears a Praeses sash and board members a Board sash.
As a liberal student organization, they also wear the smock, the toga and the liberal cap or 'klak' with long visor.
