History
Moeder Sinjoria is a Flemish Catholic high student club ("Katholieke Vlaamse Hoogstudentenclub" = KVHC) founded in 1919 by Constant Leurs & Prof. Dr. Fernand Collin. The club was born out of the discontent and radicalism of some members of the Koninklijke Antwerpse Studentenkring (KASK). The first meeting took place on 22 January 1920. It brings together students from Leuven originating from Antwerp.
For almost half a century Sinjoria was a thriving club with illustrious representatives in the Antwerpse Gilde, the Seniorenkonvent and the Verbond.
From the 1950s onwards, the use of club names was introduced.
During the turbulent 1960s, many traditional student associations suffered from the anti-conservative spirit and the many student revolutions that were prevalent at the time and left their mark on the rest of student life. Sinjoria was not immune to these changes and also suffered an emotional shock when in 1967 Praeses J. Tobback and a commilito were killed in a car accident. Sinjoria completed its club year but then ceased to exist.
Until 1987, when Johan Mees and Karl Verlinden founded the club again. The re-establishment was warmly welcomed by many old-timers. All kinds of activities were organised again and Sinjoria, thanks to the dynamic commitment of its members, once again became a club reminiscent of its former glory years.
Colours
The colours of Sinjoria are Red-Double White-Red.
The shield shows on the left the Steen (oldest building in Antwerp) with two hands above it (a reference to the etymology of Antwerp) while the right half shows the colours with the Zirkel in black.
Couleur
Following a reform of the various clubs requested by the Seniorenkonvent Leuven (SK-Leuven), the commilitones have been wearing bands in Red-Double White-Red since 1932.
The Praeses wears a red-white-red Praeses sash with the coat of arms embroidered on it.
hazed members may wear a Club Cap.
