History
Moeder Dolfijnen is a student club from Lier, consisting of students living in Lier who study in Leuven.
The club was founded in 1910 under the name Lyrana, referring to the Latin name of the town Lier. The club colours red-white-red were also adopted from the city's coat of arms. From 1928 onwards, the name changed to Pallieter and this remained the case until 1939 when the club disappeared. Already in the nineties of the 19th century there was a Liersche Kring in Leuven. However, it is not clear when this disappeared, so it is also unclear if there is a link with Lyrana.
In 1952 the club was revived under the name Pirroenen. In 1953 it was recognised by the SK-Leuven but disappeared again in 1967. The name "Pirroen" refers to a figure in the work of Felix Timmermans, a Flemish writer and poet who was born and raised in Lier.
In 1975 there was another revival, this time under the name of "De Dolfijnen". The name "Dolfijnen" again alludes to Anna-Marie, a historical story by Felix Timmermans, in which a group meets in an inn called "De Dolfijn" and is called "De Dolfijnen". At the end of the 1980s, the existence of the student club came to an end once more.
The club had its latest revival in 2010 and in 2014 they were recognized again by the SK-Leuven. In 2016, a major reform was implemented. The Dolfijnen were split into Moeder Dolfijnen for the men and Vader Dolfijnen for the women.

The colours of Moeder Dolfijnen are Red-White-Red with Gold percussion. This is a direct reference to the coat of arms of the city of Lier.
