Moeder Maaslandia (Leuven)
Maaslandia is a regional student club for men from the Maasland region studying in Leuven.

History
From Eduard Trips' writings, it can be concluded that Moeder Maaslandia was probably founded in October 1942. It grouped students from the area between the Meuse and the “Berg van As”, going from Geistingen to Smeermaas.
Initially, the newborn club was afflicted with all kinds of teething troubles but in 1946, a generation of Maaslanders who were to make "history" in the Leuven student scene arrived in the Peterman city of Leuven. Among their first study designs were the concept of "club nights" applied to this day. Unfortunately, many victims fell during the exams, causing the ranks to be severely thinned. These were difficult years but suddenly the club sprang to life.
Francis Huysmans was elected Praeses in 1948 and Maaslandia was soon known as one of the most renowned student clubs. When the leadership was entrusted to Joseph Smeets for three years from 1952 to 1955, the club experienced tremendous expansion. Not only in Leuven but also beyond its borders, Maaslandia managed to gain some fame. This included a visit to the Université de Lille. There, beer flowed abundantly from a barrel with a wooden tap and no foam in the large auditorium. Afterwards, the party continued in the dissection room of the Faculty of Medicine. Nevertheless, the French were under the impression that the Praeses of Maaslandia was the rector of the KU Leuven. It should therefore come as no surprise to anyone that Yvan Warson was the first Maaslander to be elected senior seniorum in 1959 - 1960.
In the late 1960s, under the leadership of Hubert Engelen, the shield was hung on the wall for the first time in the Ambiorix with Tienne and Gerda. Maaslandia experienced tremendous growth and Guy Colson set a never-beaten record in selling membership cards.
In those years, female students could also become members of Maaslandia. However, this upsurge of feminism was short-lived. In 1978, Georges Lenssen became the second senior seniorum from the ranks of Maaslandia. These were golden times for the club. Both financially and in terms of club members, Maaslandia manifested itself as the strongest club in the Limburgse Gilde. Trips were organised to Paris, cultural days were organised and cantuses were held by the club in hall Stella given the large number of enthusiasts.
In the second half of the 1980s, membership suddenly decreased drastically due to the departure of an entire generation. With the disappearance of the New Year's Eve gala, the club was also financially strapped. In 1987, Maaslandia still had only five active members. The alarm was raised and, under the leadership of Frank Warson and Luc Machon, the rebuilding of the club began. With the birth of activities such as the Italian Night in 1989 and the Snooker Gala in 1991, the club once again made a name for itself within the Seniorenkonvent Leuven. However, membership remained low until the early 1990s when the club welcomed a large number of schachten again.
In 1996, Maaslandia returned to its familiar nest at Jaco's in the Ambiorix after several years of wandering around the Vagant on the Vismarkt and the Council Cellars under the Leuven City Hall. It was also in these years that Maaslandia once again made itself heard by organising activities such as the Night of Regional Beers and the Aruba Night. The highlight was the fantastic lustrum gala in Maaseik in 1998 in honour of the club's 55th anniversary. In subsequent years, another gala ball was organised in the majestic Vilain XIIII castle at Leut in Maasmechelen.
In the autumn of 2003, it became clear that there was not enough fresh blood in the club to continue the rich tradition. Consequently, the daily operation of the club was suspended. In 2014, Moeder Maaslandia was re-established.
Colours
Maaslandia's club colours are Red-Green-White with white as the main colour. The left half of the shield shows an acorn above wavy water while the right half is filled in with the club colours and the Zirkel. Before 1955, this looked very different.
