History

In 1995 the various university colleges in Leuven were merged into the Katholieke Hogeschool Leuven (KHLeuven). In some of these schools student associations were already present for years.

OKeR was founded in the 1999-2000 academic year and is an overarching student association council that strives to unite the student associations of UC Leuven-Limburg (UCLL) (formerly KHLeuven) to bring the circles closer together and to advise them. They also strive to breathe new life into the student life at UCLL. In order to achieve this they take on a supporting role for the university college circles, with the aim to optimise the student work, and to offer a consultation and meeting platform between the five departmental circles, the university college and the faculty circles of the KU Leuven. Here OKeR has a special eye for the identity and the rich history that each circle carries with it. This uniqueness should not be lost, since some circles already exist for half a century and therefore represent a unique student heritage.

The board forms a coordinating committee, composed of members from each circle. In this way they can ensure that OKeR can provide the most accurate and tailored advice possible. They guide the circles in overarching initiatives and try to bring them closer together by facilitating cooperation. With the help of working groups, they also organise events that are supported by the circles, in order to present themselves even more strongly to the outside world.
