Studentenkring Sottegem (SKS)
Studentenkring Sottegem (SKS) is a genuine (weekend) home club from Zottegem with about 100 active members (not a circle, as the name might suggest). They are a mixed club (both for men and women).

History
On 25 April 2015, in Kaffee Planchee, the idea of founding a new student association was conceived under the big clock that still adorned the café at the time. Nino Galle, Kevin Van Vossel, Vincent Broekaert and Maarten De Roover were already present and were later joined by Louie Van Rijsselberge, Aron Van Caenegem and Yanni Van de Velde. They were all recent graduates of the Royal Atheneum Zottegem and were from the year 1996.
What originally started as wild plans was actually carried out. Not much later, the group of friends mentioned above, joined by a few other comrades who were not present on the evening described above, were invited to an equally famous cellar in Scheldewindeke.
The following people were present that day:
Nino Galle, Xander De Corte, Jarn Denijs, Laura De Paepe, Louie Van Rijsselberge, Kevin Van Vossel, Aron Van Caenegem, Bert Stoebel, Yanni Van de Velde, Vincent Broekaert, Maarten De Roover, Demi Eloot and Ilmijat Achmedova.
The initiators of this meeting, Nino Galle and Xander De Corte, did not waste any time and in Xander's basement the first concrete steps were taken towards the SKS we know today. The vision was determined immediately: SKS had to become an association for the Zottegem student, where every direction or type of education was welcome and where they would mainly organise activities in their own town. It was also decided who would take on which functions in the first year of operation. Nino and Xander would head the newly formed praesidium as Praeses and Vice-Praeses respectively.
By the summer of 2015, SKS was ready to go. The shield was designed and included a personalised Zirkel, the Zottegem lion and the Zottegem colours, with the letters SKS above it on a white background. Blue and yellow, the colours of Zottegem, were chosen as primary colours and white as secondary colour. The first cantus took place where the club had been founded, the basement of Xander in Scheldewindeke.
Studentenkring Sottegem only really came to the fore on the student scene after their facebook page was launched and the campaign to recruit the first novices was launched.
The first reactions to the new student association were intially favourable, although a few people did not like the idea of SKS. They did not believe in them, calling them a mushroom club that would soon disappear into anonymity. However, after its first baptism, the club had more than 70 members and was to grow steadily in the years to come. Even the greatest pessimists had to change their minds.
Colours
The colours of the SKS are Blue-Yellow-White
Blue-Yellow are the colours of Zottegem, and White symbolises purity and the transformation from student to adult.
Couleur
Although the colours of the SKS are Blue-Yellow-White, they wear Blue-Yellow bands.
Members wear a member band. However, this is wider than the standard Bierband.
Board members wear a Board sash with their name and functions on it. If a member holds several offices over several years, these are embroidered on the band and one gets a sort of studentical curriculum.
They also wear kiels, according to modern Ghent tradition.
At events where gala dress is the norm, some members wear a Beer cap on the left shoulder.
